Our Benefits

Soirees

Our soirees are typically hosted at private homes of members throughout the Boston area. These get-togethers offer semi-formal performance opportunities where members have a chance to share the music they are working on. During Covid we switched to ZOOM meetings. We are back to in-person soirees since June 2021 but continue with a few ZOOM-only soirees.

Annual General Meeting

At our Annual General Meeting the board shares the events of the past year with our members, and sets the goals for the upcoming year. It also provides a chance for BPAA members to make suggestions and give feedback.

Masterclasses

We invite professional concert pianists to teach masterclasses for our membership, usually in conjunction with the competition or festival. Past masters have included Alexander Korsantia, Victor Rosenbaum, Jonathan Bass, Roberto Poli, Hugh Hinton, Janice Weber, Tamas Ungar, Sergey Schepkin and Alexander Kobrin.

Competition

Every two years we organize the Boston International Piano Competition. For five days, our members get to listen and meet outstanding amateur pianists from around the world. Members volunteer to help the event run smoothly and make the competitors feel welcome in Boston, and membership dues are paid primarily support the competition.. The competition and masterclasses are open to the public.

Boston Piano Amateurs Association Festival

We celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Boston Piano Amateurs Association with a festival in October 2021. Another festival was planned in conjunction with the 2022 and 2024 International Piano Competitions.

Winners Recitals and More

We invite our competition winners to return to Boston for a celebration recital for members and the general public. We also keep members informed about concerts, lectures and other events in the Boston area, and BPAA sponsored a lecture by Alan Fraser on Piano Somatics.
